Women of the crochet bommai’s (toys)

One of the goals of the Saamuhika Shakti and partners is to enable waste pickers to have the ability to move to alternate professions if they so desire. To this, our program on micro entrepreneurship worked to create awareness and knowledge among the communities through the entrepreneurship program [EDP]. One of the identified opportunities was making crochet (amigurumi) dolls. A trainer worked with the women to teach crochet and to follow patterns. Crochet bommai’s are now among the successful ventures of women collectives in Saamuhika Shakti.
